Running

Somewhere along my blogging about food, holidays, gigs and stuff, I decided to blog about my mission to get fit and lose some weight in 2011. I started off just wanting to be able to run 5k, without thinking about much else. I came across the Couch to 5k program in January 2011, and hence my Couch to 5k mission was born.

When I started the program I could run about 2k without stopping or dying. So I jumped right into the middle of the program on my first day (you can read about it here). I slowly built up my k's and my endurance, and decided to put this to the test by signing up for a 4k fun run in March.

My first ever race was harder than I'd thought it'd be. But it was also great fun! I was closer to my 5k mission, and signed up for my first ever 5k event - the Run for the Kids in April.

And now, having just accomplished my 5k mission (at 38:11 - woohoo!) I'm now setting my sights beyond the 5k, and have signed up for the (gasp!) Run Melbourne 10k in July. This will definitely be a challenge, as I've never run 10k before! Having said that, I've also never ran a 5k before April.

But I can say this. Running has become an important part of my life. It's currently seeing me through a very painful break-up, and it has taught me to be more disciplined, more focused, more patient and perhaps, most importantly, to never give up.

Follow me on my running adventures here. See you out on the road!
